2007 There was a minimal decline in membership in the year but President John Cardno was confident that the measures put in place would soon reverse this situation.
Looking back at the year it was certainly a busy one for the Club. President John Cardno has been insistant that we have a positive drive to increasing our membeship. We are currently sitting with 33 members at the end of June 2008. Lookng back on the Rotary year of 2007-08 President John Cardno certainly has had a busy one. Theme for the year has been "Rotary Shares" and we certainly went down that road. The highlight of this year was the energy that members of the Club put into the "Relay for Life" the 24 hour walk that the Club has organised for the last three years. At present the final total raised could be £65,000.
Monies collected from the Wishing Well combined with other fund raisers allowed disbursement to local charities....... Enable £200, Dementia Care £350, East Kilbride Newstape £200, Breast Cancer £200, St Andrews Hospice £200, McMillan Nurses£200, EK Pipe band, £200 Sea Cadets£250, Duncanrig School £300, Prostrate Cancer £100,Toys Appeal £1700, Rotary Foundation £620, J.Gunn Fulcrum Challenge £100, 5th Boys Brigade£100, Scottish Pensioners Association, £50.
The other highlight of the year was the "Doon The Watter" sail on the Waverley which was an outstanding success and raised £7600 for Let Us Shine. Fiona Marra, the founder of the charity came along to The Club in September to collect the cheque and the money was soon put to great use. Within two months 62 girls were starting their primary education in classrooms built with the money in Kpandai, Ghana. The charity continued to have full support of the members and grew steadily in strength.

Venue for our meetings changed from the Torrance Hotel to the Stewartfield Farm.
Our twinning link was once again a great success with the largest contingent of Danes ever coming across to visit the Club in May. In total 32 arrived and although this resulted in a few logistical problems these were soon overcome and everything fell into place with members rallying round and the end result was a successful visit.

In November 2008 PP Barry Wood started to grow his hair for one year as a fund raising event for two African Charities "Let Us Shine Africa" & The Ruth Memorial Orphanage Nursery
With buckets at the ready and tabards in full display Club members donned varying amounts of clothing as they braved four seasons of weather at the B & Q Superstore in October, December, April and June. Over the four weekends the ever generous East Kilbride public contributed just over £4500 to Cancer Research in Scotland.
Rotarians Eddie Robertson, Jim Moretti, Ray Porrelli, George McGraw, Andrew Ferguson, George Ferguson, Barclay Wales, Roddy Shanks, John Cardno Ian Macpherson, Alan Jenkinson, Leslie Irvine all gave of their time to collect money from a very generous public going into and out of the busy B&Q store in East Kilbride.
